In this post, we’ll dive deep into the history and spirit of Camper Jam, explore what to expect in 2025, and share why we’re so excited to meet you in person. Whether you’re a die-hard vintage “Splittie” aficionado or you’re just beginning your van-life journey, read on for everything you need to know—and why you should definitely pop by and say hello!
What Is Camper Jam?
Camper Jam is the UK’s premier Volkswagen camper-van festival, established in 2008 and held annually at the picturesque grounds of Weston Park in Shropshire. It brings together thousands of VW enthusiasts for a celebration of everything from classic T1 “Splitties” to the latest T6 Transporters.
Over three days each July, camper-van owners and fans gather to showcase their pride and joy, swap conversion tips, enjoy live music, and soak up a warm, family-friendly atmosphere that’s become the event’s trademark Camper Jam.
The Origins of Camper Jam
Humble Beginnings in 2008
Camper Jam began in 2008 as a modest two-day gathering for VW aficionados. The very first event welcomed just over 300 camper-vans, parked lovingly across a sun-drenched Weston Park lawn TikTok.
Organisers aimed to create more than a static show; they envisioned a communal festival where families and friends could enjoy the freedom of open fields, the camaraderie of shared passions, and an array of creative activities. From day one, the emphasis was on fun, inclusivity, and the unique culture that binds the VW community.

Rapid Growth and Milestones
By 2013, Camper Jam had outgrown its original footprint, adding extra camping fields, more trade stalls, and additional entertainment zones. In 2019—the festival’s 12th year—an estimated 20,000 VW enthusiasts descended on Weston Park, transforming the tranquil estate into the UK’s largest VW weekend of the year Shropshire Star.
Despite its growth, Camper Jam has retained its grassroots, family-friendly vibe: you’ll still find grandparents teaching grandchildren vehicle-restoration techniques, teens decked out in retro VW merch, and couples rediscovering the romance of road-trip living.
The Story and Spirit of Camper Jam
A Community Celebration
Camper Jam isn’t just a festival; it’s a living, breathing testament to the enduring appeal of Volkswagen camper vans. From meticulously restored bay windows to camper vans rigged out with the latest off-grid solar systems, each vehicle tells a story of creativity, craftsmanship, and wanderlust.
Over the years, Camper Jam has become a place where seasoned converters share war stories about insulation choices, where newcomers marvel at handcrafted furniture layouts, and where everyone, regardless of experience, is encouraged to ask questions, swap parts, and form lasting friendships.
Family-Friendly Fun
One of the festival’s defining traits is its multi-generational appeal. Alongside the show-and-shine competitions, you’ll find tree-climbing courses for kids, craft workshops for the creatively inclined, and the infamous Disco Shed throwing themed parties late into the evening.
There’s even a dedicated Camper Van Live Lounge—a relaxed acoustic stage where rising talents and established names alike perform unplugged sessions throughout the weekend Camper Jam. The vibe is equal parts laid-back and electric, making Camper Jam a weekend to remember for both petrolheads and picnic lovers.
Music, Workshops & More
Camper Jam has always blended automotive culture with festival entertainment. Expect multiple music stages—ranging from big-band ska and ’90s/’00s tribute acts to indie rock and reggae headliners—plus a lineup of hands-on workshops. Build demos cover everything from carpentry and electrics to upholstery and certification. Whether you’re planning a full DIY conversion or seeking inspiration for that final finishing touch, the skill-share sessions at Camper Jam are a goldmine of practical advice.
